The Big Reveal

Finally today is the day that we reveal the official name of the DAO, the name of the NFT collection and the link to preview the collection on OpenSea. We shall also reveal the start and end dates and times for the auction.

So without wasting any more time...

(or AW)

This name alludes to the fact that effective altruists are warriors fighting to help and save the planet.

In the Project Lore, these Altruist Warriors were created from the minds of effective altruists who had digitized their brains centuries before.

Each NFT represents one of the warriors.

To join EffectiveDAO, you need to buy one of the NFTs (which will serve as your membership pass).

An individual may buy more than one NFT if they so desire but it would be great if such individuals could gift out any extra NFTs they buy to persons whom they feel will offer useful contributions to the DAO.

Auction Process and Tips

As noted above, the type of auction shall be a "Dutch Auction" where the item starts at a high price and is gradually reduced over the course of the auction duration until it gets to a minimum value.

Anyone may buy when it gets to the price they are willing to pay but the catch is that the more you delay, the more the likelihood that somebody else will buy the one(s) you are targeting.

(MATIC is the native cryptocurrency of the Polygon blockchain. You can see the current US dollar equivalent of one MATIC here )

TIP 1: If you are interested in participating in this auction, make sure you already have in your wallet the correct amount that you intend to spend before the auction starts. Make sure you have the right amount of MATIC cryptocurrency on the correct chain (Polygon) and also include about $20 to $50 worth of extra MATIC to cover for transaction fees (fees may actually be much less than this).

TIP 2: We understand that the NFT purchase process might seem a bit technical for people not familiar with crypto. Remember also that all the OG NFTs have the same voting power irrespective of how much you pay for them.

Who should Buy from This OG Collection? (i.e. Types of People We Want)

The people who buy one of these NFTs will have the opprtunity to work with the founding team for 2 to 3 monhs to properly set up the DAO in preparation for the main launch and onboarding of more members.

Anybody interested in effective altruism is welcome, but at this stage it would be nice to have more people who fit into any of the following categories:

• You want to support this project financially in it's early stage

• You are serious, passionate and deeply care about EA and about doing good better

• You are a highly skilled self-starter

• You want to contribute intellectually in shaping the direction of the DAO

• You are passionate about fixing EA's "problems" (and maybe even have ideas on how to fix them)

• You like to contribute: time, expertise, network or influence to creating effective impact in the world

• You want to help grow and strengthen the effective altruism movement

• You have experience participating actively in other DAOs

• You have skills and experience in organization building and business process engineering

• You have skills and experience in incubating or accelerating startups

• You have experience in management and/or organization design

• You want to be a part of the DAO's Guidance Council and (which is the highest level of governance)

• You like NFTs / Web3

• You want to be among the first to be considered for some perks in the Project

• You want to be known as an OG of the DAO ("OG" is a common term in the crypto world that is used to signify the earliest supporters/adopters of a project. they are generally accorded some level of recognition and respect in the community)

Types of People We Don't Want

• Toxic people and sociopaths

• Skeptics and those who don't fully believe in the vision

What Exactly Do You Get When You Buy (or Hold) an OG NFT? 

As long as you have any of the OG NFTs in your wallet:

• It officially makes you a member of the DAO (thus you can vote and influence decisions, just like every other member)

• It automatically makes you a member of the Guidance Council (GC) of the DAO. The Guidance Council is the highest level of governance in the DAO and is tasked with general DAO oversight, proposing policies and ensuring that the DAO's vision is always kept in focus and effectively pursued. The Guidance Council consists of the Founding Team and the OG NFT holders. 

• You will also automatically become a member of the Expanded Guidance Council (EGC) which is the second highest governance level of the DAO and which comprises all Guidance Council members, all circle Leaders and other elected representatives from the entire DAO membership.

• You become part of a think tank to advice the project team and suggest new ideas and policies for wider consideration.

• Gives you top level / privileged access to all the DAO's collaboration platforms, in addition to special areas exclusive to OG NFT Holders only

• You get bragging rights as a donor and a pioneering member of the project i.e one of the earliest supporters. Further exclusive perks and benefits shall be determined by the DAO members.

• Note: Active participation in DAO and governance activities as a member of the Guidance Council is not compulsory. While there is a preference for persons who would actively participate or provide input in the Council, it is understandable that time and other constraints may be an issue for some. 

An APPEAL to Funders and Donors

Even if you may not have the time or are unable to participate for some reason, please consider sponsoring some person(s) who might be very motivated and willing to participate in the DAO but don't have the financial power to buy an OG NFT during the auction.

Here are some of the things you could do to support us:

• Buy the NFT for yourself if you will like to become a DAO member

• Buy for others who you feel will be able to contribute impactfully

• Donate directly to EffectiveCauses (my organization which is behind the DAO project)

• Donate directly to the DAO

• Note that at this time the organizations are not yet registered so any donations are not tax-deductible for now, but please don't let that dissuade you. If you really want to help EA become better then help fund the project please
